Challenge

After a period of salinity stress the palms were producing short, pale new fronds. Soil fertilisation was effectively useless given the high soil salinity, and foliar spraying could not reach the tall crowns.

Solution

A vascular nutrient capsule was prescribed per palm based on trunk diameter. In parallel, a leaching and granulated-gypsum remediation programme was run to bring root-zone salinity down over the longer term.

Results

By the second season new frond length returned to the normal range and natural green colour recovered. Palm mortality over the project period was zero.
